The U.S. Treasury will announce the maximum planned amount for buybacks of 10-
to 20-year Treasuries at 11:00 a.m. ET (23:00 Beijing) on Wednesday. On Sept. 10
it will disclose the exact amounts purchased under the buyback programme
launched in May 2024. Treasury previously said each long-tenor buyback through
Nov. 4 would be at least $4.0 bln, up from $2.0 bln, but retains discretion to
expand sizes. Markets broadly expect Bessent’s intervention to exceed the stated
buyback targets.
