It added the UN Charter’s ‘enemy state’ clauses, a wartime-era arrangement targeting WWII defeated states, remain in force and that Japan should heed the 80th anniversary of the Tokyo trials. The remarks responded to recent Japanese requests to Russia to remove a monument commemorating the defeat of Japanese militarism and comments dismissing the Charter’s enemy-state provisions as obsolete.
