An RBC Capital Markets strategist said recent pledges by UK Prime Minister Burnham and Chancellor Healey to maintain fiscal discipline could support UK gilt performance. Healey’s speech this week reaffirming the government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility has eased investor concerns ahead of the Oct. 28 budget, the strategist said. The Tuesday syndication of a gilt maturing Jan. 2056 will test demand for UK government debt; the strategist said the fiscal backdrop should be supportive of demand.

US Treasury said investment funds bought $30.569 bln of 7-year Treasuries due Aug. 31, 2033 in the latest biweekly reporting period, versus $31.104 bln a month earlier.
