President Vucic announced on Sept 9 that he has dissolved the National Assembly
and scheduled a snap parliamentary election for Oct 25. The prime minister
proposed dissolution on Sept 7 after a special government meeting. Under the
constitution the president may dissolve the assembly on the government's
proposal and set the election date. The current assembly was elected in Dec 2023
and has served fewer than three years.
