China Index Research Institute said Beijing and Shanghai relaxed housing
policies in August. Beijing second‑hand residential transactions totaled 14,000
units, up 3.9% YoY; Shanghai second‑hand transactions remained elevated, up
16.3% YoY. New‑home transaction area in Beijing was roughly flat YoY in August;
Shanghai new‑home sales area rose 16.0% YoY. The institute said activity
reflects marginal improvement in supply–demand; prices remain in an adjustment
channel and new‑home inventory is still relatively high, so the sustainability
of the market recovery is uncertain.
