Sept. 11 — China Geological Survey and China Mining Journal released the Global Mining Development Report 2026 at the China International Mining Conference. The report says the energy transition, supply-chain volatility and competition over international rules are driving a multi-layered shift in mining dominated by security considerations, a technology-driven overhaul and reconstruction of governance frameworks. In 2025 global mineral supply–demand structures adjusted rapidly with clear divergence by commodity: energy minerals — overall demand slowed, oil in surplus, natural gas production and consumption both rose; bulk metals — steel supply fell while demand rose, copper and zinc saw simultaneous supply and demand growth, aluminium experienced declining supply and demand; strategic new minerals — generally oversupplied, with nickel and lithium surpluses deepening; precious metals — supply tight overall, platinum and silver undersupplied, gold roughly balanced.
