Canadian media reported on Sept. 11 that the minister responsible for
Canada–U.S. trade said there are no formal trade negotiations with the United
States, though he remains in contact with U.S. Trade Representative Greer and
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. He warned the two countries' escalating
trade dispute is a key government concern and said Ottawa must be prepared for a
potential agreement, which would have to respect Canadian sovereignty and
national interests.
