Chinese President Xi met Indian Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on Sept. 12
during the BRICS leaders' meeting. Xi set out four priorities: calibrate
strategic perceptions and treat China and India as partners rather than rivals,
viewing each other as development opportunities not threats; pursue
cooperation-for-win mutual benefit, focusing on development, expanding
people-to-people exchanges and direct flights, and addressing bilateral trade
concerns to promote healthy, stable economic ties; apply mutual respect and
understanding to remove disruptions, pursue a dual-track approach advancing
overall bilateral relations while managing border issues to keep frontier areas
peaceful; and strengthen mutual support and coordination in multilateral forums
— BRICS, the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the G20 — to defend
international fairness and justice.
