On Sept 14 at its 70th General Conference in Vienna, the IAEA raised its global nuclear capacity forecast for the sixth consecutive year, projecting installed capacity could reach up to 1,284 GW by 2060—about 3.4 times 2025 levels. Under a high-growth scenario capacity would reach 1,045 GW by 2050; under a low-growth scenario it would still be 696 GW by 2060, roughly double 2025. Director general GROSSI said nuclear’s importance is rising with growing power demand and the agency expects small modular reactors (SMRs) to play a larger role in future expansion.
