The Washington Post reported Sept. 15 that U.S. officials say the Trump
administration plans to sell $2.8 billion of ammunition to Israel, including
20,000 MK-84 and 20,000 BLU-117 2,000‑lb bombs. The package has been informally
notified to the congressional committees that review major arms transfers, the
report said. The U.S. and Israeli governments did not immediately respond to
requests for comment. Human rights experts have flagged Israel’s frequent use of
2,000‑lb bombs in Gaza and Lebanon for causing heavy civilian casualties.
