Taiwan's Taiex rebounded for the first time in five trading days, closing up
337.41 points (0.74%) at 45,848.90, led by semiconductor-related buying after
gains in U.S. chip stocks. MediaTek and ASE Technology Holding, a packaging and
testing firm, rose; server OEM Quanta Computer also advanced. Select financial
and shipping names saw buying. Market heavyweight TSMC initially rallied but
came under selling pressure and finished lower.
