Beijing, Sept 16, 2026 — China foreign minister Wang Yi met Iran foreign
minister Alaghezi and urged parties to take effective measures to promptly
reopen the Strait of Hormuz, safeguard the security and openness of
international sea lanes, and stabilize energy transport and supply chains. Wang
warned the ongoing Middle East turmoil is severely affecting international peace
and development, said China does not want tensions to spill into Yemen and the
Red Sea, and called on parties to stop complicating the situation and resolve
disputes through dialogue and negotiation.
