Two internal documents and a Reuters report show Vietnam’s leader will visit New York next week and US and Vietnamese firms plan to announce a package of energy, technology, aviation and financial agreements, many of them non-binding. An internal plan lists 29 deals potentially to be unveiled at a Sept. 23 business event attended by the leader; US firms Murphy Oil and Chevron are expected to sign accords with state oil firm PetroVietnam, and ExxonMobil with Vietnam Refining and Petrochemical Company, the country’s second-largest refiner. The trip is intended to advance US-Vietnam trade talks and could finalize a trade deal negotiated for more than a year, but a meeting with President Trump is not confirmed, the White House said.
