Yen weakness plus central and municipal subsidies of up to about ¥2.0m can cut
Tesla’s Tokyo Model Y price from a posted ¥5.6m to as low as ¥3.6m (≈$22,900).
With subsidies, Model 3 can be priced down to ¥3.3m. Tesla is actively
advertising these subsidies to customers in a market dominated by Toyota and
Suzuki. Model Y was the top imported car in Japan in 1H by volume.
