Sept 18 — China’s foreign ministry said at a regular briefing that the United
States has returned 64 cultural relics, artworks and paleontological fossils to
China. The ministry said the transfer is part of practical cooperation under a
bilateral MOU to prevent illicit importation of Chinese cultural property into
the U.S.; since the MOU was signed more than 20 batches totaling over 700 items
have been repatriated. Beijing described the return as an implementation of the
leaders’ consensus reached at their recent Beijing meeting.
