At the night-session open, China's main futures contracts were mostly lower: coking coal fell over 2% and Shanghai crude (SC) dropped nearly 2%. Rapeseed meal, coke, soybean meal and Soybean No.2 declined more than 1%; Soybean No.1 was down about 1%. Benzene, Shanghai silver, pulp and offset paper rose over 1%.

Ireland Finance Minister Simon Harris downplayed the threat that President Trump would impose tariffs on EU imports over moves to advance Canada’s path toward EU candidacy, saying ahead of an informal EU finance ministers’ meeting in Dublin that the risk should not be overstated and that Trump’s full remarks should be considered rather than selective quotes. Trump said on Thursday he could impose new tariffs on imports from the EU or curtail some trade if he deems efforts to push Canada toward EU candidate status harmful to the US, but he added he would not act if the move is in good faith.

Rania al‑Mashat, executive secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), said a US‑Iran war cost Arab economies roughly $150 bln in its first month, about 4% of regional GDP. She warned threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al‑Mandeb are affecting trade, economic stability and access to essential goods; about 25% of seaborne oil trade and 19% of LNG trade transit the Strait of Hormuz. Gulf states are also major exporters of ammonia, fertilizer, sulfur and aluminum. Al‑Mashat said the conflict could delay investment and economic diversification across the Arab world and called for measures to prevent escalation, protect freedom of navigation and strengthen regional preparedness for further disruptions to supplies and services.
