With CNY4.0 bln of 7-day repos and CNY600.0 bln of overnight repos maturing, the central bank registered a CNY4.0 bln net withdrawal today. Over the week PBOC carried out CNY735.3 bln of 7-day reverse repos, CNY100.0 bln of 14-day reverse repos and CNY500.0 bln of outright reverse repos; with CNY8.5 bln of 7-day and CNY500.0 bln of outright repos maturing, the week saw a net injection of CNY826.8 bln.

FT, citing four people, reports Venezuela’s government and opposition are close to an agreement to transfer about $4 billion of central bank gold held at the Bank of England to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Under discussed terms, the interim government led by acting president Rodríguez would gain legal control but could not immediately sell the bullion; it could be pledged as collateral to secure government borrowing to fund spending, including reconstruction after June’s twin earthquakes. The US-backed deal is not final and technical details may take time to resolve.
