Peru's Central Reserve Bank (BCRP) governor Julio Velarde said on the 18th that
El Nifio impacts have exceeded expectations, prompting the BCRP to lower its
2026 GDP growth forecast from 3.4% to 3.2%. Speaking while presenting the
September 2026 inflation report, Velarde said the probability of a stronger
climate event has risen and the bank has downgraded growth prospects for the
primary sector, notably fisheries and agriculture.
