South Korea’s Industry, Trade and Resources Minister Kim Jung-gwan said on Tuesday Seoul has selected the first project under the $350 billion Korea-US investment agreement and will brief lawmakers on two additional projects under consideration; he gave no further details. Lawmaker Chung Chin-ook said after the briefing the first project is a Texas gas-fired power plant, flagged as part of a larger nuclear-investment study. Seoul is in talks with the US on investing in two APR1400 reactors using Korean design and is seeking a 5–10% stake in US nuclear firm Westinghouse Electric. The Alaska LNG project has not been confirmed for inclusion in the Korea-US investment package.
