S&P Global's UK services PMI fell to 51.7 in September from 52.5 in August, the weakest in three months and below the 52.0 consensus. Service-sector selling prices rose at the fastest pace in four months and firms reported accelerating cost pressures after energy prices jumped following an escalation in the Iran war. S&P Global estimates the survey implies quarterly GDP growth of about 0.1% versus 0.4% in Q2. S&P Global chief business economist Chris Williamson warned the data show a concerning mix of weak growth and rising inflation, saying stronger price indicators could keep the BoE on a hawkish path while subdued confidence and higher costs amplify risks from elevated borrowing costs.
