Researchers at the University of Electro-Communications have developed a method of sealing perovskite PV cells inside cylindrical glass tubes, similar to fluorescent lamps. Encasing perovskite material in glass is intended to suppress degradation from rain and wind and could improve durability; the cylindrical form may also increase power generation versus planar modules. The university plans to form an industry–academia consortium in October to advance mass-production techniques, expand applications, run performance evaluations and pursue commercialization.
