Chinese President Xi arrived at Andrews Air Force Base on the afternoon of Sept 23 local time for a state visit to the United States at the invitation of US President Trump. Both leaders said they look forward to in-depth exchanges on major bilateral and global issues. Xi said China and the US should be partners rather than rivals and called for deepening a constructive strategic-stability relationship and expanding cooperation across multiple fields.

The Israeli military said its forces killed Mohammed Abu Alwan, head of Hamas’s finance department, in a Wednesday strike on Khan Younis in southern Gaza. In a Thursday statement the military said Abu Alwan had operated in the area for about ten years, helped prepare budgets for all Hamas branches and directed transfers of more than 1 billion shekels (about $330m) to fund Hamas activities, playing a decisive role in sustaining Hamas’s rule.
