China Coast Guard spokesman Jiang Lue said on Sept 27 the force conducted law-enforcement drills in waters near Huangyan Island (Scarborough Shoal), focusing on boarding inspections, interception of incursions and forced towing. He said the coast guard will step up enforcement and control in the area to resolutely defend China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.

MOFCOM’s US and Americas bureau said the eighth round of US‑China trade talks produced an agreement to extend the Kuala Lumpur joint arrangement. In October 2025 both sides had agreed to suspend parts of each other’s tariffs and non‑tariff measures through Nov 10, 2026; the talks agreed, on the basis of extending that arrangement to Jan 10, 2027, to continue actively exploring the issue with the aim of reaching a mutually agreed solution.
