On Sept 26 at the 81st UN General Assembly general debate, Iceland's foreign minister rebuked Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's remark that delegations who walked out during his Sept 24 speech were "moral cowards." She said that label applies instead to leaders who refuse peace talks, obstruct humanitarian aid and repeatedly violate and flout international law. She added Palestinian civilian suffering must not be treated as background noise and reaffirmed Iceland's support for establishing a Palestinian state so both peoples can live in security, dignity and peace.
