ECB President LAGARDE said on Monday euro-area inflation is on an "intermediate path" that requires a moderate policy response. She said the shock is material but a measured response is appropriate. LAGARDE added she expects inflation to rise but currently sees no signs of it becoming entrenched and no evidence that higher energy prices are passing through into wages.

China's State Council called for stepped-up countercyclical macro policy to support sustained improvement in the economy and to meet this year's economic and social targets.
