On Sept. 29, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, at a regular briefing, responded to reports that on Sept. 25 the Philippines' National Maritime Commission released a so‑called new 'chart' including Zhongye Island and Mahuan Island in the Chinese Spratly Islands. Guo said Zhongye and Mahuan are part of China’s Spratly Islands and Chinese territory, that China has indisputable sovereignty over the Spratlys and adjacent waters, and China firmly opposes any Philippine acts that harm China’s sovereignty and rights and will continue to take necessary measures to firmly defend its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea.
