China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange said goods and services trade in the balance of payments totaled 5.118 tln yuan in August 2026, with exports of 2.879 tln yuan, imports of 2.239 tln yuan and a surplus of 640.7 bln yuan. Major service items: travel 173.1 bln yuan, transportation 153.2 bln yuan, other commercial services 143.7 bln yuan, telecom/computer/information services 69.3 bln yuan.

ECB policymaker Kazimir said energy prices remain a key factor for deciding next steps and declined to disclose his voting intentions. He called this month’s rate rise unavoidable given the energy shock, said energy costs have persisted longer than expected, that the ECB has time to keep policy flexible, and that January repricing data will be key to gauging second‑round effects of higher energy prices on inflation.
