A European Commission spokesperson said on Tuesday the EU does not intend to
renegotiate export quotas with Ukraine. Kyiv had sought expanded market access
after Russian attacks weighed on its economy. The EU’s early-2022 tariff- and
quota-free access for Ukrainian goods led to large agricultural inflows and EU
farmer backlash; Brussels reimposed quotas last year on wheat, sugar and eggs.
Ukraine is seeking a higher bioethanol export quota. The spokesperson said, We
can confirm there are currently no plans to reopen discussions on renegotiating
export quotas with Ukraine, and added trade data show last year’s revised quota
arrangements are fair and balanced.
