President Trump told reporters he has a candidate in mind for a proposed
government AI chief and named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton as a
possible choice, Axios reported. The role’s responsibilities remain unspecified;
Trump has previously proposed creating a new government AI Force. Clayton told
his July confirmation hearing, echoing Treasury Secretary Bessent, that AI is
both an opportunity and a threat for the intelligence community. Trump said he
hopes to make a decision within three to four days.
