Axios, citing three people familiar with the talks, reported Qatar's mediation
this week produced little progress as both the US and Iran refuse to make
concessions, heightening the risk of renewed military escalation. US officials
say President Trump could order a resumption of large-scale military operations
after the midterm elections. Qatar will continue to mediate but is increasingly
frustrated, sources said. Pakistan and Egypt have urged Iran to make nuclear
concessions; Iran reportedly says it will only consider concessions if the US
agrees to restore a memorandum of understanding signed in June.
