The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said media reports that
Germany and France are drafting a joint paper urging the European Commission to
adopt a US-style '301' unilateral trade instrument. The association called such
a tool protectionist and unilateral, saying it would not solve Europe's industry
transition challenges, would materially affect Chinese auto and battery sectors,
and could disrupt China-EU trade and global auto supply chains. It said it is
highly concerned and will firmly support the Chinese government taking necessary
countermeasures to defend the legal rights of China’s auto industry and preserve
a fair, non-discriminatory international trade environment if the EU proceeds.
