Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar said at a press briefing
in Islamabad on the 2nd that the Mecca Defense Alliance Strategic Political and
Defense Committee will hold an emergency meeting next week in Riyadh. Saudi
Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan will discuss possible political contact with Yemen’s
Houthi movement; Dar said the proposal was put forward by Iran, which wants a
rapid resolution, and that it exists only as a verbal understanding between him
and Iranian foreign minister Alaghezi rather than as a formal written text. He
added Pakistan has briefed Iran on the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement and on how
Pakistan would implement it.
