CME Group has suspended the planned launch of a 10‑barrel crude oil futures
contract meant for 24/7 trading. CEO Terry Duffy said the contract was intended
as a U.S.-regulated alternative to existing around‑the‑clock crude products, but
after industry outreach some key participants warned that introducing 24/7
energy futures without further evaluation could cause unintended consequences
and raise market risk, so CME withdrew its application. CME also urged the CFTC
to address regulatory disparities across trading venues to ensure derivatives
comply with the Commodity Exchange Act.
