Brazil's 2026 general election first-round voting was held on Oct 4. Polling
stations opened at 08:00 and closed at 17:00 Brasilia time. Voters elected
president and vice president, governors of 26 states and the Federal District,
54 federal senators, 513 federal deputies and state/district legislators. More
than 10 candidates are registered; leading names include incumbent President
Lula and Senator Bolsonaro. Under Brazil's rules a presidential candidate must
secure a majority of valid votes (>50%) to win in the first round; if no
candidate achieves that, the top two advance to a runoff on Oct 25.
