On Oct. 5 at about 10:30am local time a fault in an underground cable cut power
across central and east London and the City, affecting more than 30 postcodes
and thousands of homes, offices and critical transport infrastructure. The UK
grid operator is carrying out repairs and expects most areas to be restored
between midday and 1pm. The outage affects the City of London financial district
and could disrupt trading operations, clearing and commuter transport while
unresolved. Experts warned the UK is not prepared for food-supply emergencies.
