U.S. President Trump told a campaign rally on Monday, according to the Los
Angeles Times, that Iran could "destroy" Los Angeles and San Diego and that he
would "let them." He said a large victory in a U.S.-Iran war would vindicate
U.S. actions and called war's impact "temporary," the cost high but "limited"
and "a small price" for global and national security. California officials
sharply condemned the remarks. Governor Newsom wrote that after Trump sent the
National Guard and Marines to California, the president now says our foreign
enemies should "destroy" Los Angeles and San Diego, calling him "mentally ill
and dangerous." San Diego Mayor Todd wrote the city is not a "sacrificial pawn"
or a "small price" and urged Trump not to drag their city into reckless war
talk.
