Vietnam is pushing LNG to meet surging power demand, but implementation is
lagging: of 18 planned LNG-fired power projects totaling more than 20 GW, only
one is expected to meet its schedule, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.
Sixteen projects have selected investors but only two have begun construction.
The delays jeopardize Hanoi’s goal to raise LNG to 12% of the power mix by 2030
and, the ministry warned, could cause power shortages as early as next year.
