The U.S. and nine countries from North, Central and South America issued a State
Department-backed joint statement condemning Iran and its 'terrorist proxies'
for 'terrorist acts and other malign influence operations' in the Western
Hemisphere. The statement, supported by Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica,
the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago, was
released after a Countering Transnational Terrorism Forum in Paraguay. Delegates
accused Iran and its proxies of plotting lethal attacks, illicit fundraising,
political interference and other actions intended to support terrorist networks,
coerce opponents, undermine law enforcement and harm regional security. They
said Iran and its proxies 'must immediately stop these actions' and pledged to
take further measures and strengthen coordination and cooperation to address the
threat.
