METI announced on the 6th it is expanding Japan’s ban on exports to Russia,
adding 102 categories of industrially sensitive goods including tungsten and
other rare metals, plastics, aluminium and steel products, ores, nuclear reactor
components, and optical equipment and components. The government revised the
Export Trade Control Order and related ministerial ordinances; the measures take
effect on the 16th. This is the 13th amendment to Japan’s Russia export
controls, bringing the total number of industrially relevant items barred from
export to about 1,900. METI minister AKAZAWA said the government will continue
to consider additional measures as part of its response to Russia’s actions in
Ukraine.
