Venezuela's Caden refinery, the country's second-largest with 310,000 bpd
capacity, halted operations after a fire in a processing unit, eight sources
said on Tuesday. Two sources said the blaze began in a gas pipeline feeding the
plant's diesel hydrotreating unit, forcing shutdown of boilers and the whole
facility. Sources and nearby residents said the fire was put out in under an
hour after an explosion and evacuations; no worker injuries have been reported.
Fires, power interruptions and blackouts are common at PDVSA-operated sites,
which could tighten domestic gasoline and diesel supplies.
