Finnish authorities ordered a suspension of construction at two planned Google
(GOOG.O) data centres over concerns about clearing more than 300 hectares of
forest. The projects are part of Google’s record €13 billion investment plan in
Finland announced less than a month ago and described by the company as its
largest single investment in Europe. Finnish regulators said work at one site
began without a mandatory environmental impact assessment and ordered a halt to
activities that would "significantly alter the environment" until Oct. 23.
Google said it "failed to meet its own high standards" and will follow the
regulator’s guidance.
