Analysis of satellite imagery and ship-tracking data shows at least 12 empty LNG
carriers owned or chartered by QatarEnergy are gathered off Qatar, with combined
capacity of about 1.1 mln tonnes — roughly 2% of the global LNG fleet. The
buildup could signal preparation to increase shipments via the Strait of Hormuz,
but any transit is uncertain amid a recent uptick in attacks on vessels; Athens
News Agency reported a Greek-owned LNG carrier was attacked near the Strait on
Tuesday but continued sailing.
