CPCA secretary-general Cui Dongshu wrote that in major overseas markets with
available data, Chinese domestic-brand new-energy passenger vehicles have
continued to strengthen. In 2026 their share of overseas new-energy passenger
vehicle sales rose sharply, reaching 29% in August (up 14 percentage points);
Jan–Aug 2026 share was 24.8%, up 9 ppts YoY. Cui attributed the gain to stronger
exports by domestic NE makers and a severe contraction in the US new-energy
vehicle market. Regional penetration stood above 80% in South America and 47% in
Southeast Asia.
