France is considering increasing issuance of shorter-dated government bonds.
With the global bond market sell-off intensifying, government financing costs
have risen to multi-decade highs. Finance Minister Roland Lescure said on
Wednesday that, amid deepening French fiscal strain and weakened investor
demand, the government will take “strategic” measures on new debt issuance —
likely adjusting the debt maturity profile and boosting short-term issuance to
ease pressure from sharply higher long-term yields.
