Traders say the Reserve Bank of India may sell dollars around market open to support the rupee.

Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce said monitored online and offline spending during the National Day Golden Week (Sept. 30–Oct. 6) totaled 76.24 bln yuan, up 9.9% YoY. Offline sales were 40.04 bln yuan, +15.1% YoY; online sales 36.20 bln yuan, +4.7% YoY. Consumption in 19 monitored municipal shopping districts was 5.62 bln yuan, +14.5% YoY. Average daily in-store footfall was 3.964 mln, +1.9% YoY. The city ran about 200 promotional events over the holiday.

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren pressed U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over what she called the Treasury's "unprecedented and chaotic" intervention in the U.S. Treasury market, asking how the department plans to fund Treasury repo operations by lowering its cash balance, what steps it will take to push down long-term U.S. Treasury yields, and whether the Treasury has assessed the impact of rising long-term yields on consumer borrowing costs, including auto loans and mortgage rates.
