Shanghai immigration said on Oct. 8 that between Oct. 1-7 its checkpoints
processed 809,000 inbound and outbound passengers, a 3.4% YoY increase and
roughly 116,000 per day. Pudong and Hongqiao airports accounted for 763,000
passengers, while the Shanghai cruise port handled 46,000. Mainland resident
crossings totaled 581,000, up 4.1% YoY. Foreign arrivals via Shanghai were
89,000; more than 50,000 entered under visa-free or 240-hour transit policies,
nearly 60% of foreign arrivals. Authorities attributed the rise to concentrated
holiday outbound travel and family visits.
