IncoPat's global patent database shows that over the ten-year window from Oct
2016 to Sep 2026, CATL registered 26,574 simple-family battery patents, ahead of
South Korea's LG Energy Solution at 22,597 — a lead of roughly 3,900 patents.
This is the first time a Chinese battery firm has ranked first on a decade
basis. Domestically CATL ranks No.1 across total patents, power batteries and
solid-state batteries across all-time, ten-year and three-year windows. Other
Chinese firms in the global top 10 include EVE Energy, SVOLT, Gotion High‑Tech
and BYD, signaling a shift in the global battery innovation centre from
Japan/South Korea toward China.
