ANTHROPIC said it will invest $150 million over three years in the Trump administration's Genesis Mission federal program and will provide its AI model Claude to more than 15 federal agencies, including NASA and NIH. The company will allocate Claude, Claude Code and API credits to the Genesis Mission.

Tianwan nuclear plant unit 7, operated by China Nuclear Power Investment Holdings under CNNC, synchronized to the grid for the first time on Oct. 8 and delivered its first power; it is expected to enter commercial service later this year. The Tianwan site plans eight units; units 1–6 have produced over 550 bln kWh. When all eight units are online, installed capacity will exceed 9,000 MW, annual generation will top 70 bln kWh and CO2 emissions will be cut by about 57.4 mln tonnes a year.

The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences held their 2026 annual cooperation meeting in Beijing on the 8th and signed a series of institute–enterprise cooperation agreements and major projects. Since launching an annual coordination mechanism in 2023, the two sides have initiated over 1,200 projects with cumulative funding above 32 billion yuan; central SOE R&D spending has exceeded 1 trillion yuan for four consecutive years. Cooperation focuses on energy development, deep‑sea exploration, green transition and equipment manufacturing, while CAS reports breakthroughs in AI, integrated circuits and bio‑breeding — steps cited as strengthening industrial and supply‑chain security and supporting major national programmes including manned space and lunar/Mars exploration.
