On Oct. 6 OpenAI posted 722 math preprints on GitHub, claiming progress on 372
problems across geometry, computer science and algebra. Less than 24 hours later
it withdrew three papers, citing a notation error. OpenAI said the releases
included hundreds of AI-generated mathematical findings. The Human Math
Association on Oct. 7 criticized the mass release as a power display, urging
mathematicians to stop collaborating with OpenAI and to return to a
human-centered research approach; Fields Medalist Terence Tao reposted the
statement.
