UK Prime Minister Burnham will tell Parliament on Monday the UK should consider
a closer post-Brexit relationship with the EU, saying a new post-Brexit
agreement could boost growth and help control immigration. Burnham, who backed
Remain in the 2016 referendum, will set out his policy direction after
Parliament’s recess. Unlike predecessor Keir Starmer, who sought to avoid
reopening the divisive EU debate, Burnham argues the UK should acknowledge
Brexit has not delivered the expected benefits and undertake a calm, clear-eyed
reassessment of UK–EU relations.
